Yummy stuff

Since being sick for a week set me a little off of my goal of having a different wine every week, I have completely made up for it the past two weeks by drinking 5 different wines. Let's chat about a couple that while being great wines, do great things.

First off, both wines come from the Temecula Valley, which is actually my favorite wine country by far. Admittedly, probably because I can get there in under an hour, but that's beside the point...

First Cougar Winery's Pink Cougar. When you see this wine don't let it fool you, while it looks like a white zinfandel it certainly does not resemble one in taste. It has much deeper tones. And what I really like about it is that a portion of the proceeds go to breast cancer research. Any wine that supports such a good cause is a good wine to me (okay, I might be exaggerating a bit, but I still like it). It's a little sweet, but not overpoweringly so. Many friends who I have introduced to this wine all say the same thing, they LOVE it!

Next on the list, Wiens Family Winery's Refugio, this wine helps support a horse refuge. This wine is a Cabernet Sauvingnon and absolutely wonderful. It is often only offered to wine club members, but it is so worth asking for if you happen to be at the winery. While the flavor of this wine has a lot of depth, I would not say it is very "jammy" (which if my understanding of this term is correct means you taste a lot of fruit), I think it is much more peppery. I actually LOVE this wine (the fact we have gone through almost a 1/2 case in the past 3 months should be proof enough). As of this writing Wiens is still tasting out of the barrel and selling "futures" of the next batch (we bought a 1/2 case).

Oh, and I said I drank 5 wines...here's a list of the other 3...

Gershon Bachus Zephyrus (2005 Zinfandel)
Cougar Cortese 2008
Foot Path Winery 2007 Malbec

Enjoy and happy wine drinking.
